GA isn't vegan he loves chilli...and it's meat chilli. The proof is that his son Connor is vegetarian. In the recent GA/BC book when he came back from the dead, it was commented that he was eating meat chilli, and wasn't that odd behaviour for a vegetarian (or possibly vegan).
