DC Infinite Heroes Crisis 4-Pack: A Bit Warped

The “Crisis” theme for the first series of Mattel’s DC Universe Infinite Heroes has been loosely applied, so the idea of a pack straight from the pages of CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS was very appealing, and I happily placed my order when this became available at Mattycollector.com.

On first inspection of these in package, they look fun. On closer inspection, however, the thrill of having two of the stars of Crisis in their dead / nearly dead form fades a bit, especially due to the execution.

Psycho Pirate and Monitor are both basically well designed. Pirate’s mask doesn’t come off, which is understandable at this scale. I wondered if it was removable at first, because it protrudes from the face quite a bit, making it look a little more clunky than needed. Monitor is fun and much needed for a “Crisis” line. My only criticism here is that he appears to be a couple of sizes too small for his outfit because of the huge collar around his small head and neck.

Flash is straight out of the pages of COIE #8 – crumbling head and all. His right arm is at an odd angle – not sure if this is part of the whole crumbling body thing or what. I wouldn’t display my DCD 6” Crisis Flash with his crumbling head, and displaying this funky Flash doesn’t really appeal either.

I hesitated to open Supergirl, as the imagery of Superman holding her would be lost (he’s a picture on the card only), and once I did open her, I really regretted it. As well as just looking plain silly standing there all bloody and torn, her left leg has been seriously warped by the way it’s been packaged. She stands, but she looks ridiculous. Bummer, especially since I’m not buying the whole four-pack again to have another one to keep in package.

So, two out of four for this Mattycollector.com effort from me. Glad to have Psycho Pirate and Monitor, not so excited about the warped dead-ish plastic people.

Until next time!

This could have been such a special set,but i agree that Flash and Supergirl just seem hastily put together[and obviously poorly packaged] figs. What a disappointment,a 50/50 success rate for an online exclusive set just don't cut it.Shame!

It's not the Anti-Monitor in this set, silly. It's just the normal Monitor.

One thing that seemed to be from the matty.com is that these figures (Flash and PP at least) have the new articulation. Is that true? How is this revised articulation?

Thanks for the tip on the Supergirl! I haven't received mine, and was debating whether to open it, and you've swayed me.

I keep thinking I'm going to drop this line, because, let's face it, the 6" line is so well-executed that it puts this one to shame, but they keep putting the figures out and I keep buying them.

The crisis Supergirl with headband is available as a singled carded figure without the Superman image and special packaging - so if you want an unwarped Supergirl you wouldn't have to rebuy the whole set, you would have to buy one more figure though - which is really one too many.

The Monitor doesn't really get my attention, and Flash and Supergirl are awful. PP looks kinda good, but is not enough.

There's always something with this line that makes ir hard for me to like. First the hands, then the bent legs and arms. I won't buy this line, only the Ray Palmer Atom, if I get it, 'cause I want him for another display.

Have you tried the hot water/cold water trick on the leg to reposition the plastic? That always works for me.

That warped limb thing seems to be more and more common now. That and joints that simply don't move. Silly me, I keep forgetting these things are made as cheap as possible in countries where hourly wages are non-existent.

Oops - thanks Wilma - have corrected it to Monitor now!

The only IHs I have is the Defense of Oa 6-pack, and I probably won't be buying any more. The IH line looks really cheap to me, and while I guess that is somewhat reflected in their retail price, I just can't justify spending more money of these when there are so many other great figures coming out now. What's sad is that in my area the pegs are overflowing with these, but DCUCs are nowhere to be found.

Deh! It's a DC line I should be interested in, and I'm sitting here thinking it's a waste of plastic, space, and moolah. I'll keep my spare cash for something else.

Such a disappointing waste.

Flash just looks weird. i've never been one for fixed facial expressions. neutral faces are the way to go really. what you've got there is a "yelling flash" toy. which limits things a bit.

i never got into the battle damaged thing either...

I like the figures. I'm a fan of DC and its many Crises. What I don't like is the fact that these figures have a terrible quality control and they come all warped.

The packaging for Supergirl is awesome. Too bad the figure isn't. Monitor and Psycho Pirate look pretty good, though. Makes me want to buy the DCD 6" versions at one of the comic shops in town.

I finally found a Ray Palmer Atom in the wild today, so I'm happy.
