Is Mattel about to reveal a Green Lantern Classic Line?

Action Figure Pics is reporting that members of the Fwoosh have found preorder pages for a Green Lantern Classics Series 1 from Mattel.

AFP'S link to the Fwoosh topic isn't working, but at Big Bad Toy Store it's listed with an October 2010 release date and options for a case of 6 or 8. Enchanted Toy Chest has "Mystery Figures" in the same configuration.

This move would make a great deal of sense, since the Green Lantern world is where the DC Universe has really been thriving in the last few years, and will soon become more well-known through the upcoming movie starring Ryan Reynolds. The "Classics" in the title would seem to imply that this is a comic-based line, so it will be interesting to see, with most of the GL big guns already released or about to be released in the Wal-Mart Exclusive 5-pack, how many repaints or re-issues fill this line, and just how far Mattel mines the vast Green Lantern Universe.

This is obviously all unconfirmed news until the line is actually announced, but it certainly gives us something to speculate about in the meantime. The best news at present is that it looks like whatever is being offered here isn't a retailer exclusive. Hooray for that!

Until next time!

Color me GREEN with excitement! Hopefully it'll be full of alien GLs and Sinestro Corps members.

Nice. I hope this isn't just reissues to raise GL awareness.

This just sounds to me like movie promotion. I'd be surprised to see anything brand-new in these collections. (Not to mention, what's left from the Lanternverse to do? Sonar?)

It'd make sense given the way Marvel have done their toy lines to tie into movies and offer more depth in areas fans of a particular part of the Marvel U might want.

If they do it right (unlike the Marvel U) they should be able to reduce the ened to dump load after load of GL figures in their other main DCU lines. I'd hold my breath on that, but I hear ovygen deprivation is bad for you or soemthing.

Yeah, I think it could be good to do it the way Hasbro and Marvel have been doing it with the separate movie lines (not that it has kept said characters out of main lines). I am kind of excited though, maybe we will get some of the other fan favorite characters like Green Man and such.

has there been a mogo figure?

On the one hand I might get figs of Laira or Natu, but I would then get them using the DCUC female buck which is god awful, such a dilemma. As long as the wave doesn't include another Hal and John, I'm all for this.

If they did that to scale, shipping would be prohibitive.
