Those bust puns never get old, do they? …….do they????
Supergirl is DC Direct’s next entry in the Women of the DC Universe Mini-Bust Series Two, based on designs by Terry Dodson.
This bust is beautifully done, with lovely colours and a great base, but there’s something slightly off about it that I couldn’t put my finger on until I saw Dodson’s original concept sketch on the side of the box (have a look at my Facebook photo album for the picture).
While the sketch show’s Supergirl’s hair sort of flowing in the wind and with a knowing, determined look on her face, the final sculpt looks a little bit too much like “Barbie as Supergirl”, with her hair a bit too perfect and her facial expression more than a bit too blank. Also, the Super-person bending metal thing is little bit tired, having been used in more than one Superman bust / statue in recent times.
This is still a good addition to the line, but it’s a shame to see the gap between concept and product – not characteristic of this line as most of the previous Dodson busts have captured the sketch beautifully.

I don't think she looks blank. I think it's more of a 'hey check me out. bending steel is nothing to me' kind of experession.
The original sketch def has more determination to it but I still like the finished bust. Having said that, I'd prefer her with a blue skirt.

I don't think she looks vacant. Just cheerleaderish. Oh wait...
I liked the sketch better, but don't mind the expression of the finished work either. I'll pass on busts and statues since are really expensive here.

Who could ever get tired of bust jokes?....no, really? I gotta say I like the Hughes one better. A lot more playful. This is a bit to 'meh'. No offense to Terry Dodson though (whose sketch was better than the finished piece)
Its odd that the bust is so removed from the original sketch. Its almost a completely different piece of work.
It is a lovely bust still.
I really am looking forward to Mera & Aquaman busts.
Aquaman busts??? Man I lost track of that guy's story...
I wish they would draw supergirl in the style she had in the crisis saga. I think she looked better then. Now she looks too girlish.
