Dude, Where’s My Face?? - Aquaman Blammoid

A “Blammoid” sounds like something that is going to hurt. As of today, I can tell you, it does.

I thought the upcoming Black Lantern Aquaman was going to push my love of all things Aquaman to the limit, but that was before I saw the new DC Direct Blammoids! in person. I visited the “other” comic shop in town today (they had a sale, okay??) and along with a trade I’ve been looking for, I picked up the Aquaman Blammoid! (The exclamation mark is part of the title and does not indicate any excitement on my part.)

These little buggers are about 4” tall and quite wide and deep. it’s lighter than I expected, and not as steady on it’s funny little feet as I might have thought – not that it topples over or anything, but it isn’t quite as sturdy as I might have thought. There are just three points of articulation here – the two arms and the neck, so that Aquaman can get a good look at his surrounds with his non-existent eyes.

The long and the short of it – these ain’t my thang. I would have much preferred to see DCD work on a wider range of Minimates than start down this road. There’s something quirky about these little blobs of plastic that I am sure some people are going to find appealing. I can see people buying their favourite character either out of loyalty for for the novelty factor, but the hefty price tag would keep all but the most dedicated of fans from collecting the lot.

You can see more pics (including packaging and scale comparison) at Facebook, discuss this at the AFB Forum, and comment on this post to enter the AFB January Comment of the Month Contest!

Until next time!

Wow, that's pretty horrible. Not sure what the appeal would be with these figures. Thank you for your sacrifice, and keeping the rest of us safe from these monstrosities.

ahhh the horror!!! the horror!!

well my 4 years old kid might like it... HELL he might even know is aquaman.. but no... I wouldn't do that to him...

Thanks Andy for the warning...I wonder... who thinks in this things?

What disturbs me is the little black oval where his junk should be. Or maybe it's right under it. Either way, they should have just sculpted a gap between the legs rather than paint on a void.

My shop didn't get these, and I had been curious to see them in person. Maybe I'll have to cheat and visit a different store.

Yeah, these things are pretty horrible. It would have been nicer if DCD would have given the DC Minimates another shot instead of this garbage.

At least the mighty muggs looked like what they represented, these are just a bit bad.

That is the most god-awful thing I've ever seen being sold as memorabillia. And what on earth is going on with his package? I'd pass on these any day of the week.

These make Might Muggs look good. And I hate Mighty Muggs. These are just soo terrible. It surprises me that anybody would buy them, but I guess everybody likes different things. Some of them just like what seems to be crap.

the thing has no eyes so it can not see how dc when they made it made it deformed. like aquaman wound up switching bodies from normal figure to a rejected weeble

i kind of like it, it has no face and makes the child playing with it a chance to be more creative... maybe?

I think from a design point of view, Aquaman is the least appealing of the Blammoids! (and that says a lot) because he has nothing of real interest in the top of his head. Firestorn gets a little fire, Joker, his huge smile and Batman the cowl, but Aquaman is just another blonde dude with no face.

I honesty believe that Georg Brewer knows exactly what fans want and puposely doesn't give it to them.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the little buggers are actually kind of cute.

Before anyone asks, yes, I was one of those people that found the Munchkins adorable as a kid, so this kinda taps into my primal "cute" senses. If/when wave 4 comes out, Flash and Zoom are going up on my speedster shelf, but they're the only ones.

Also, I agree with the thought of Minimates, especially with Blackest Night currently running. I mean, who wouldn't want to see a teeny tiny little BL Bart Allen or Star Sapphire Wondy? A Red Lantern Minimate of Mera would be made of adorable and RAGE.

ugh. no one needs a Star Sapphire Wondy. But a BL Bart and RL Mera would be sweet. or an Indigo Ray, oh my heart for an indigo Ray.
